Rivian R1s 2025

Rivian R1s 2025 – A good place to refresh the look of the car. Tesla is at one end of the spectrum, with an aging lineup that has lost its power when these cars were basically the only premium EV game in town. Meanwhile, the Rivian is a new face with a unique aesthetic, which is basically a car-obsessed REI superfan’s hot dream. Its signature oval headlamps, which break up a thin monolamp, still give the R1S and R1T (and the upcoming R2 model) a distinct, instantly recognizable look. So, whether smart, conservative, or affordable (or, more likely, all three), Rivian hasn’t changed much about the looks of its “second-generation” 2025 Rivian R1T pickup and R1S SUV. Maybe it had no choice; Using cash, a company needs to increase sales and reduce costs, and this heavy mid-cycle update appears later and has a good chance of helping the former.

Raven claims there are 600 individual hardware, software and aesthetic changes between the two generations, and only a few of them are visible on the outside. We spent a day at Pacific Northwest Cars, the Raven Scituate’s soulmate, to see how the second-generation R1S SUV and R1T truck have changed.

The 2025 Rivian R1t And R1s Now Make Over 1,000 Horsepower

Without parking the 2025 R1 in front of the previous model year car, it is difficult to notice the changes, but they are there. Minor changes, such as moving the turn signals out of the oval DRL modules where the fog lights used to be; Fog lights are now redundant thanks to the design and flexibility of the new Matrix LED headlights. Adaptive Drive Beam-LED matrix technology is available, but the software to make it work won’t go live until later this year. The larger front and rear headlamps now include animations in hazard mode, with the option to sequentially line up the lights to indicate which way the driver may want to approach the vehicle to maneuver through a blocked rut. The company will also later use the lamp’s RGB function to enhance the company’s beautiful display special modes, such as the Easter Eggs Halloween mode.

More useful (and impressive) is the introduction of Dolby Atmos, an advanced surround sound system we’ve already heard on the Lucid Air. No car is an ideal soundstage, but Rivan’s introduction of an Atmos-enhanced premium sound system is stunning, think IMAX for your ears. Add the new Connect+ subscription service and you can activate the Google Cast functionality and get an ad-free implementation of the original Apple Music. With plenty of hotspot bandwidth, it seems like a good way to pass the time at a charging stop. Rivian hasn’t announced pricing yet, but the standard connectivity package (including OTA updates, navigation, digital keys, etc.) is free. Also note that the 2025 Ravens Ultra Wide Band will use digital key technology for better key recognition and will also support Apple Wallet, Apple Watch, and (some) Google Pixel devices.

Some new interior changes are also welcome, such as some touch and feel items (better and more stitching on panels and parts), new ambient lighting themes and some new interior colors. Palettes, materials and ambience are still ‘technical outerwear’ and the R1’s interior is still a luxurious and luxurious place to spend time. And the new 22-inch low-drag aero wheels look great too.

The R1S and R1T aren’t lightweight cars, but they are EVs, and that means the benefits of mass-extraction. And sometimes, less weight also equals less price. Rivian desperately needs to keep costs down on every vehicle, so while various reductions in component weight and manufacturing complexity aren’t necessarily exciting for potential buyers, they are available for this young automaker.

Rivian R1s, R1t Add 850 Hp Tri Motor And 1025 Hp Quad Models

Take electronics. First generation R1s used 17 separate ECUs, each requiring connectors (the wires on the line that connect things) and wiring to connect them all. Do you know how much copper is worth these days? Raven says it has stripped the cars of 44 pounds of wiring, 1.6 miles long, and reduced the number of ECUs to seven. ECUs now place processes that need to exchange information on the same board, rather than communicating via wires to separate ECUs. The result is a significant increase in speed and therefore processing power, in addition to a reduction in complexity and weight.

That processing power will eventually enable hands-free driver assistance in some situations (ie, far-mapped divided highways, often under the right conditions). The hardware is already there, including a heated front radar element and a high-resolution camera. Lane Change Assist will be available when the cars go on sale, and Enhanced Highway Assist will be available later this year. Raven says its driver assistance hardware now has 10 times more overall processing power than before, and will also use on-chip machine learning to improve system fidelity as owners drive.

The parts of the battery box have taken up more space; Mass trays primarily house the battery modules and are a structural part of the chassis. Instead of an expensive extrusion-heavy enclosure, Rivian gained the scale and maturity to invest in high-pressure die casting of a portion of the enclosure. This has knocked £55 off the regular pack and a whopping £154 off the off-road pack, and reduces the price. These are big numbers.

Similarly, the electric motors of the three different powertrains – twin, tri and quad – are now all inboard designs and oil-cooled. Oil cooling allows the company to either combine the same size performance, same spec motor without thermal issues, or use cheaper magnets. Both equate to cost savings, and benefit from scale modularity and efficiency.

Rivian R1s First Drive Review: Cutting Edge Again

Overall, Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe said during a previous visit that production optimization should reduce material costs by 35 percent for base model vehicles with low-cost lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries. for example

A heat pump is also installed on Rivian’s trucks, an efficient heating device that uses less juice to heat and cool the cabin, and still surprisingly what happened. Speaking of warmth, the large glass roof panel finally gets the electrochromatic tint function we (and a small number of owners) have been praying for. It will be much better to relax and cool the load when the sun is out. We couldn’t talk about it, the full, dark day we spent in it.

Electric motors, in general, are very efficient, torquey, admirable things, but the pace of evolution is staggering, and engineers learn from data from customer fleets of overdrives in the process. Here is an example. With 850 horsepower and 1,103 pound-feet of torque, the new Tri-Motor powertrain is much better than the old Quad-Motor (835 horsepower and 908 pound-feet of torque).

Based on data collected from the old Quad-Motor, Rivian retuned the power delivery slightly, deciding that the front drive unit (shared with the Dual Motor) didn’t need to be as powerful to deliver the desired performance. The quad Outback juiced-up twin electronic motors also use integrated mechanical cut-offs, so when they’re not needed, the second-generation R1 tri-motors are essentially front-wheel drive machines with serious performance advantages. Raven estimates that the tri-motor can go 410 miles in hold mode—yes, hold mode. Compare that to the first generation Quad motor, which only managed 328 miles. The tri-motor should also accelerate to 60 mph, with the Raven estimating a 2.9-second run. Our best in Quad-Motor was 3.1 seconds.

And neither is the dual motor sloppy. The base car uses a cheaper, lower-capacity LFP battery, but still makes 533 hp, 610 lb-ft, and a 4.5-sec estimated 0-60 time. For $5,000 more, the dual-motor performance boosts it to 665 hp, 823 lb-ft and a 3.4-sec 0-60 time, plus up to 420 miles on the largest battery. The dual-motor performance feels incredibly powerful on a windy two-lane road. Upgrade it to Sport and firm up the suspension, and while it has less corner-to-corner “bounce” than the tri-motor, there’s no shortage of torque or fun.

By the way, Rivian isn’t talking about battery capacity, but we expect them to be 105kWh, 135kWh and 180kWh, all on the larger side.

It means that it is worthless. For example, this is now a thousand plus horsepower, seven thousand plus pound car with 1,025 horsepower and 1,198 lb-ft. Rivian claims it will hit 60 mph in 2.5 seconds, matching the low-powered performance of the Tesla Cybertruck Beast in our test, and do the quarter in 10.5, stopping the beast by half a second.

To whet our appetites, Raven took the pre-release R1T and R1S Quad-Motor to a quaint drag strip south of Seattle, and it was packed the night before and the track was barely warm and dry. Even with prepared surfaces and electric tire blankets, both cars struggled to grip as McLaren kicked the heat out of the morning air.
